ABT’s Bodykits Pass Pedestrian Safety Tests

If you’re a potential customer of VW Group specialist ABT, you’ll be happy to know that the German tuning firm’s front end kits have passed pedestrian safety tests performed by the TÜV Rheinland Group's Pedestrian and Passenger Protection Laboratory in Cologne.

During the tests, dummy legs weighing about 15kg or 33 lbs hit the ABT vehicles AS4, AS5 and Tiguan at a speed of 40km/h or 25mph. “We are proud to have stayed well below the maximum values prescribed by law. That shows once again that our products meet highest quality standards”, said Hans-Jürgen Abt.

Just to be clear, this doesn’t mean that the VW Group models equipped with ABT’s kits are totally safe for pedestrians, as the tuning firm performed tests only in concern of an impact with pedestrian’s legs which is totally logical as ABT has nothing to do with the front-end design of VW Group’s cars (e.g. the hood). –Video and images after the jump
