Jaguar & Land Rover Readying Hybrid Versions

Former Ford Group owned Jaguar and Land Rover are developing a series of hybrid models that will go on sale in Europe within the next five years. British magazine Autocar is reporting that the two carmakers that are now part of the Indian Tata Motors Group are developing two hybrid systems based around two new engines, a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel version of the current 2.7 V6 and the all-new 5.0-liter V8 petrol unit that’s expected sometime next year.

The first mild-hybrid models to be introduced into the market will be the Land Rover Discovery 3, Range Rover Sport, Jaguar XF and Jaguar XJ in 2010. All of these models will be equipped with the 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel unit combined with a micro-hybrid system using stop-start technology. This system alone is believed to boost fuel economy of these vehicles by as much as 10 percent. -Continued

It is also reported that Land Rover is developing a more sophisticated version with a super-capacitor for short-term storage of electricity and a starter-generator that will be able to recharge the battery during engine-braking. This system could make its appearance as early as 2010.

As for a full-hybrid, both British carmakers are expected to introduce their propositions in 2012. However, Jaguar and Land Rover will use different solutions with the 4x4 maker expected to utilize a rear-mounted 'Electric Rear Axle Drive' electric motor.

Arden Releases Teaser Shot of Tuned Jaguar XF

Arden is a well-known tuning firm based in Germany that specializes on Jaguars and Range Rovers. The company is getting ready to launch their first Jaguar XF product that bears the name “XF AJ 21”. For the time being, Arden has only released a teaser picture of the car featuring a luscious bodykit that includes a new front bumper with Audi-style LED lights, a redesigned grille, side skirts with air vents, new oval-shaped mirrors, different alloy wheels and new side vents. -Continued

Unfortunately, Arden hasn’t announced any details on the mechanical updates but it shouldn’t take long. From what we gather, the XF AJ21 will probably get the same heavily modified 4.5-liter supercharged V8 as the XK AJ 20 Coupe that delivers 480 Hp / 353 kW and an awesome torque of 640 Nm or 472 lbs-ft at 3,850 rpm/

Information is scarce for the moment, but apart from the obvious fact that the 4-seater coupe is based on the new XF, we did learn that the XF-C is powered by a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that develops more than 500 Hp. –Check out the rest of the images after the jump

Rice-Racer Inspired Tuned Jaguar XF by Galpin

We’re not supporting that the 2008 XF is the most beautiful or sleek car in its category, but if anything else, the new mid-size Jag’s looks are totally acceptable. That is if you don’t opt for Galpin’s tuning proposition that turns the XF into a race-ricer inspired joke of a luxury car. And to imagine that Galpin is actually the largest Jaguar dealer in the States!

Galpin gave the XF a crude two-tone, black and red paint job combined with color matching 22-inch alloy rims, smoked tail-lamps, tinted glass and a matching two-tone colour scheme for the leather interior. A piece of advice to the fellas at Galpin; just stick to selling and servicing Jags and leave the tuning for someone with a bit of taste… -More pics after the jump
