Volkswagen Working on 7-Seater Version of Tiguan SUV?

While there’s no official word out yet, the latest issue of German car magazine “Autozeitung” features a computer generated image of a long-wheelbase version of the Tiguan SUV. The German’s support that the extra length will be used to add a third row of seats that will be able to fit two more passengers –apparently small adults or children. If it actually finds its way into production, the Tiguan LWB’s main market will be of course the USA with power coming from the existing engine line-up.

Volkswagen to Double Production of Tiguan SUV

In order to meet customer demand (more than 100,000 orders) and reduce the long waiting times (up to 10 months in some cases), Volkswagen is planning to double the output of its new Tiguan compact SUV that went into production this month at its Wolfsburg plant. Currently, the German carmaker is producing 220 Tiguans a day but according to plant manager Siegried Fiebig, this figure would be increased to between 400 and 450 a day to help reduce lead times for the car.

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line: Official Details & Images

Volkswagen presented the sporty R-Line equipment packages for the new Tiguan compact SUV at the Essen Motor Show. As we predicted in our initial post on the Tiguan R-Line (click here), the German carmaker will offer two separate kits, an interior package and an exterior package. However, note that the R-Line packages will be exclusively available on the Sport & Style version of the Tiguan. -Continued after the jump

The "Exterior" R-Line package combines a bodykit with 19 inch "Omanyt" type alloy wheels equipped with size 255/40 R19 tires. Furthermore, the so-called dynamic chassis is also on board, equipped with a sportier suspension tuning.

The bodykit includes bumpers painted in car color with redesigned lower areas, a diffuser (painted black) integrated in the rear bumper, and in front a radiator grille screen with dual louvers in "matte chrome". Standard equipment includes black wheel well extensions – and door add-on parts that are painted in car color as well.

Interior upgrades of the Tiguan "Plus" R-Line package consist of the sport seats (front) with R-Line logo embossed in the headrests and "Monte Carlo" fabric design, multifunctional leather steering wheel, also with R-Line logo, and aluminum pedal caps. Leather sport seats are also offered as an option.

Volkswagen will host the world premier of the newly designed R Line sport package for the Tiguan SUV at the 2007 ESSEN Motor Show in Germany (Dec. 1 to 9). For the time being we only have the first official images in our hands, as VW hasn’t released details yet. However, judging from the other R Line packages, we suspect that Volkswagen will offer buyers the choice of “exterior” and “interior” kits.
